A raw scan of a recent commission of Howards from BPRD.
*nib, brush, micron, traditional screentones.
Howards will never be the same without you. Hope you come back some day (and hope Rumble works for you too)
any colcr version yet?
I like your use of white on black to create negative space and the grass. Great composition and line work. The brushes make a convincing cloudy sky, and the screentones look amazing!
If you don't mind me asking, how do you apply those screen tones?
they're self-adhesive. You cut them out with a razor blade and stick them directly on the board.
so sick, I love the posture and how tired he looks. great job.
When do you choose to use the nibs over the microns? And visa v3rsa?
I clearly see each influence in your drawing: Otomo, Miyazaki, Shirow, Samura, Kirby, Mignola..but you fuse all these artists in an original style that everyone can says "Hey, this is Harren!". I said too many times how much I love your works, but let me do this one more time: great piece dude, great piece.
Love the character Design! Can't wait to see what you do with him & the Story.
I'm a big fan of your work James.
Oh James... how you depress me... Great work, as always!
ha, thanks, Joe. No need to get depressed on my account. We can't both be depressed about each other's work.
Can't love this enough
Sooo cool. Fantastic work
Stellar stuff James!
Righteous picture bro.
just bloody brilliant
You put your halftone dots in the old-fashioned way?
yep, in this case I did, at least.
I'm kinda curious to see what you could do with a Warhammer 40K picture, like with the Imperial Guard or something. But damn, I wish I could draw like that.
...really excited to pick up BPRD next week - your visual storytelling & technical brilliance compliment the writing exceptionally well...! Thanks for making comic books so cool to read again... seriously brilliant, i could stare at each of your panels for hours...
I hope we'll see a lot more of Howards... and Gall Dennar.
WHOOAAA...breaking the screentone out!! Incredible work, sir!
Very nice work!
powerful. which strathmore is that?
That is way too much rocking!
